The following was spoken extempore by a daughter of liberty
at Providence, to a young gentleman, who appears to have
sollicited marriage, but not being inclined to oppose the
execution of the Stamp-Act, meets with this cruel repulse,
viz.
  Awhile fond Damon, prithee tarry,
Nor woe me to thy eager arms,
Thinkest thou, this a time to marry,
When our dear country's in alarms?
. . . [3 more verses, signed] Phileluthera. March 23d,
1766.
